Scan For Hardware Changes Command Line

I have a windows 10 laptop (only a couple of years old) and an older printer (HP LaserJet 1320) that is not wireless. I often wander with my laptop, hooking up the printer only when I need to print. Most of the time I need to manually scan for hardware changes. I would like to create a shortcut (command line, bat file, or some other, better solution) to perform this task to make it easier for my less tech-savvy family members. Ideally, I would like to be able to connect/disconnect the printer at will and have it work without any manual intervention, but I'll take what i can get.

Even though the Wi-Fi option is not available, you can still scan for hardware changes. Open the Device Manager, right-click on Network Adapters and select Scan for hardware changes.

If your Wi-Fi adapter is missing from your Windows computer, run the Network Adapter troubleshooter. Then, open the Device Manager and scan the Network Adapters section for hardware changes. If the issue persists, install the Wi-Fi adapter in compatibility mode, and reset your network settings.

There are many reasons you might need to find out details about your computer hardware. For example, if you need help fixing something and post a plea in an online forum, people will immediately ask you for specifics about your computer. Or, if you want to upgrade your computer, you'll need to know what you have and what you can have. You need to interrogate your computer to discover its specifications.

Device Manager is an important windows utility and a troubleshooting tool. It provides a central and organized view of all the installed hardware that is connected to your computer like a mouse, keyboard, hard drives, USB, printers etc. The components are well arranged in their respective categories. Device Manager can be used to update the drivers, view the components with problems, identifying the conflicts between different drivers and scan for the hardware changes when a new device is connected to your system.

Device Manager lets you to view the installed hardware, view hidden devices, update drivers for the device, enable or disable devices from Device Manager, scan for new hardware and adding the Legacy hardware.

However, like all forms of Linux, Raspbian has a powerful command line interface that gives you a lot more control over the computer than you can get using the GUI. And many important tasks are either easier or only possible via commands. That's why, below we've listed the most important commands for navigating the file system, installing software, editing files and monitoring performance.

Look for your camera under Cameras or Sound, video, and game controllers. If you still can't find the webcam, go to Action > Scan for hardware changes and wait for Device Manager to scan and reinstall updated drivers. Restart your computer and look for your camera again.

Inxi is a 10K line mega bash script that fetches hardware details from multiple different sources and commands on the system, and generates a beautiful looking report that non technical users can read easily.

Each of the command has a slightly different method of extracting information, and you may need to try more than one of them, while looking for specific hardware details. However they are available across most linux distros, and can be easily installed from the default repositories.

On the desktop there are gui tools, for those who do not want to memorise and type commands. Hardinfo, I-nex are some of the popular ones that provide detailed information about multiple different hardware components.

HMC scanner must be used on a system with Java 1.6 or later. It must be capable of contacting HMC/SDMC/FSM/IVM with a direct SSH connection or by using an SSH connection through a HTTP, SOCKS4 or SOCKS5 proxy server. The HMC/SDMC/FSM/IVM must allow remote SSH command execution.

What is CMD?,Basically CMD stands for Command, CMD is the interface which was used in the early ages of the computer revolution before a Graphical User Interface was invented by Apple .Inc on a Macintosh Computer. The graphical User Interface was later adopted by the PC or Windows computer later on. The CMD interface or window is normally a black screen with lines and it operates with commands issued by the user through keyboard input.

The commandline will load both the hardware and software specification of the machine or computer on which you will be running the command. On completion of loading the command issued, the screen will be filled with multiple text.

In the third example above we have used the --json parameter to change the output format. This is a great trick to get operating system telemetry into json for use in bash scripts and command line processing.

Pnputil.exe is a command line utility that you can use to manage the driver store. You can use this command to add driver packages, remove driver packages, and list driver packages that are in the store.

Scan speeds on Windows are generally comparable to those onUnix, though the latter often has a slight performance edge. Oneexception to this is connect scan (-sT), which isoften much slower on Windows because of deficiencies in the Windowsnetworking API. This is a shame, since that is the one TCP scan thatworks over all networking types (not just ethernet, like the raw packet scans).Connect scan performance can beimproved substantially by applying the Registry changes in thenmap_performance.reg file included with Nmap. By default these changes are applied for you by the Nmap executable installer. This registry fileis in the nmap-directory of the Windows binary zip file, andnmap-/mswin32in the source tarball (where is theversion number of the specific release). These changes increasethe number of ephemeral ports reserved for user applications (such asNmap) and reduce the time delay before a closed connection canbe reused. Most people simply check the box to apply these changes in the executable Nmap installer, but you can also apply them by double-clicking onnmap_performance.reg, or by running the commandregedt32 nmap_performance.reg. To make the changes by hand, add these three Registry DWORD values toHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters:

Every stable Nmap release comes with Windowscommand-line binaries and associated files in a Zip archive. Nographical interface is included, so you need to runnmap.exe from a DOS/command window. Or you candownload and install a superior command shell such as those includedwith the freeCygwinsystem available from Here are the step-by-step instructions for installing and executing the Nmap .zip binaries.

Nmap releases now include theZenmap graphical user interface for Nmap.If you used the Nmap installer and left the Zenmap field checked, there should be a new Zenmap entry on your desktop and Start Menu.Click this to get started. Zenmap is fully documented inChapter 12, Zenmap GUI Users' Guide. While many users love Zenmap, others preferthe traditional command-line approach to executing Nmap. Here aredetailed instructions for users who are unfamiliar with command-lineinterfaces:

The inventory scanner collects hardware and software data and enters it into the core database. When you configure a device with the Agent configuration tool, the inventory scanner is one of the components of the standard Endpoint Manager agent that gets installed on the device. The inventory scanner runs automatically when the device is initially configured. A device is considered managed once it sends an inventory scan to the core database. The Windows scanner executable is named ldiscn32.exe.

Hardware scan: Scans hardware data on managed devices. Hardware scans run quickly. You can configure the hardware scan interval in an agent configuration (Tools > Configuration > Agent Configuration) that you can deploy to managed devices. By default, hardware scans run each time the device boots.

Software scan: Scans software installed on managed devices. These scans take longer to run than hardware scans. Software scans can take a few minutes to complete, depending on the number of files on the managed device. By default, the software scan runs once a day, regardless of how often the inventory scanner runs on the device. You can configure the software scan interval in the Configure > Services > Inventory tab.

You can also use inventory scans to keep track of hardware and software changes on devices, and generate alerts or log file entries when such changes occur. For more information, see Tracking inventory changes.

To update the problematic device driver, you can right-click the target device driver and then select Uninstall device and the Uninstall button. After that, right-click Disk drives and then click Scan for hardware changes to refresh the device driver.
